Livestock Learning Road Show

We hope you are ready for the annual Livestock Learning Roadshow! This series will focus on improving soil health and grazing practices to protect the environment and improve water quality and farm/ranch profitability! We will be bringing in expereinced guest speakers that are there to inform you of best practices as well as answer any of your questions! Our team and sponsors will be hitting the road March 13th and will make our way around the state of Kansas through March 31st! 

These workshops are free, but will need registration for meal count, name tags, a follow up survey, and to provide any information on any changes to the events.

March 13-17, 2023 (program repeats daily) : Mankato, Belleville, Washington, Axtell, and Holton - GRAZING MANAGEMENT TO EXTEND GRAZING SEASON

Jim Gerrish, Grazing Expert and Consultant

This workshop will focus on grazing cover crops and alternative forages to extend the grazing season through the fall and winter months, keeping livestock out of confined feeding areas. Jim will also discuss the economic advantages of grazing cover crops and how to make every drop of water count.

March 18, 2023: Emporia, KS - SURVIVING THE DROUGHT AND MANAGING TOUGH TIMES

This workshop will focus on:

  • How to Survive the Drought
  • How to Make Every Drop of Water Count
  • Extending the Grazing Season with Alternative Forages
  • Managing Cow Costs for Economic Return

Herschel George, K-State Extension Specialist

This workshop will focus on livestock feeding and watering alternatives on grazing lands and solutions to fencing concerns. Discussions will include feeding sites and the use of solar livestock watering systems during summer and winter months to improve herd health.
