Kansas Ranching: The Owl Story Presented by Kansas Grazing Lands Coalition & USDA NRCS

Kansas rancher, Bill Sproul shares his experience with different owl species. Bill was the 2015 Leopold Conservation Award Winner and shares his trials and tribulations of cattle ranching. He understands every cattle rancher has their own experience and environment. He is eager to learn from others, as well as, share what he has learned about ranching over the years.

Bill explains his close encounters with Short-eared Owls, Barn Owls, and Great Horned Owls.

Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism helped Bill acquire and install an Owl box which housed two clutches of Barn Owl eggs after installation. When installing the the box, biologists identified two Great Horned Owls on Bill's property. Great Horned Owls are a predator of Barn Owls, and Bill notes that he has not spotted Barn Owls in his area recently.
